On Labor Day this year, Boo and I went out with our friends to Summit Lake. On a clear day it has amazing views of Rainier. We left the city at 7 and got to the trailhead at around 10. One thing we quickly found out is that it's 3-4 miles of serious off-roading until you get to the parking lot - I'm glad we brought our Land Rover for this trip! (it was slightly nerve-racking even with it!)
The hike up was about average (a little slow moving for me because it had been a few weeks since I had hiked last). It was really hot out, so once we got to the lake, Boo barreled into the water and started playing ball immediately. We got in part-way too and enjoyed a fitting Rainier Beer at the top (always pack your beer in and your cans out!). You could barely see Rainier through the forest fire haze, but it was enough for us to want to come back again in the future. It looks like a fabulous place to camp overnight!
